Bulova Accutron Watches
Many of the Bulova watch lines has withstood the test of time, but one in particular, the Bulova Accutron watches holds a few firsts in design and in the hearts of their owners.
The Bulova Accutron watches first were released by Bulova in the 1960’s and has become highly sought after watches around the world by watch collectors.
The one thing that makes the Accutron stand out as a first is the fact that it was the world’s first tuning fork watch. This innovation moved battery operated watches from their traditional balance wheel movement that offered poor time accuracy to an accuracy unheard of on small clocks such as wrist watches.
Now, the Bulova Accutron watches have gained a collectors status. Simply because a new quartz movement promised the same accuracy as the tuning fork technology but at a fraction of the tuning fork’s price.
Needless to say, it didn’t take long for the tuning fork to go the way of the dinosaurs, to be replaced by quartz movement technology. This with the limited number of years that the Bulova Accutron watches tuning fork design was in production, has made them extreme collector’s items.
Still, even though this original watch movement has been replaced, you’ll still find proud owners wearing these watches to this day. Nicknamed “hummers”, they are still a rock solid design that has lasted for more than thirty years.
Today’s Bulova Accutron watches still sport the accuracy of their hummer predecessors, but come in many beautiful styles to enhance the looks of any wearer of this watch.
The Accutron has become so popular among wearers, that Bulova has produced a special line of ladies Bulova Accutron watches that are more feminine in design.
Upon looking, you’ll discover that you’ll be able to find these watches for as little as $100 to well of $1,000. What makes the difference is the level of features you’ll find in this watch.
I decided to look at one of the high end Bulova Accutron watches, the 26E017. This watch retails for around $1,300. I had a tough time finding reviews on this watch, so I looked at one myself. Some of the features of this watch are it’s made with 230 diamonds, has a domed sapphire crystal cover, a stainless steel case and bracelet.
Let me tell you my first impressions. This looks like a $1,000 watch. It reeks of style and sophistication. I love it’s one color tone design. Simplicity set off by shear elegance. And did I say it looks real expensive?
Given half a chance, I would welcome this watch into my collection. But I would probably never wear it in a dark alley!
